The UN Secretary-General has withdrawn his invitation to Iran to join this week's peace conference on Syria.

Talks are due to start in Switzerland on Wednesday.

But Iran is now being excluded over its stance on a transitional government in Syria.

The United States has welcomed the move.

Ban ki-Moon's spokesman Martin Nesirky made this statement:
