Temperatures could hit all-time record highs for September this afternoon.
A Status Yellow high temperature warning remains in place for the country until 8am on Saturday.
Met Éireann is forecasting very warm and humid weather, with daytime temperatures of more than 27C in many areas away from coasts.
Night-time temperatures are not set to fall below 15C.
Potential impacts from the hot weather could include:
- Heat stress
- Uncomfortable sleeping conditions
- Risk of water related incidents
Cathal Nolan of Ireland's Weather Channel has said there is a chance of reaching a record heat today.
"During the course of the afternoon in one or two locations those temperatures will push a little bit higher, so maybe 28/29C," he said.
"There is the outside chance that we may see temperatures pushing up as high as 30C, which of course - if it does reach that level - it could be the all-time record for the month of September broken.
"I think the areas of the country that will see the hottest weather are probably parts of northern inland Munster, maybe parts of the Midlands as well.
"I think these areas are areas that are likely to see the very highest of the temperatures.
"The highest temperatures will occur typically between around 1pm up until about 4pm," he added.
