Christmas Island was the first place to count down to the New Year at 10am Irish time yesterday morning.
Since then there have been fireworks over the Sydney Opera House, chimes from Big Ben in London and the Times Square ball was dropped in New York City.
Ireland's largest New Year's Eve celebrations were held in Dublin - with thousands attending an outdoor concert at College Green.
