The most successful Irish team to ever compete at an Olympic Games will return home to a warm welcome today.

Around 60 athletes will arrive at Dublin Airport this morning before being whisked into the city centre for a civic reception on O’Connell Street.

Paris 2024 was Team Ireland’s most successful Olympics yet, returning with four gold medals and three bronze.

The free public event starts at the GPO at 12:30pm; however, traffic restrictions will be in place around town from 9:30am.

Buses will be diverted from O'Connell Street from 10 am, and the Luas Green Line will be suspended between Dominic St and St Stephen's Green until 10pm tonight.

The Luas Red Line will also be suspended between Smithfield and The Point from 9:30am this morning until 10pm tonight.

Investment

Taoiseach Simon Harris will greet Ireland’s Olympians and the Team Ireland coaches and staff at the GPO at the start of the homecoming event.

He’ll thank each of them and ask them to imagine the inspiration they have ignited in young girls and boys across Ireland.

The Taoiseach will tell the team that they have inspired the nation and that there must now be a legacy from the Paris Olympics and that means Ireland’s investment in sport will be higher than it has ever been before to build on their success.

Arrival

Kevin Keane, Marketing Manager with the Olympic Federation of Ireland, says the team will be happy to get home.

"They will be landing at Dublin Airport a little after 11am,” he said.

“They have the honour of being invited to a civic reception by Dublin City Council outside the GPO.

“Our Olympians will be making their way to the city centre, and they will be appearing on stage.

“They will be extremely happy to get home after what has been Ireland’s most successful Olympics."
