Irish actor Stuart Townsend has been released on bail, after he was arrested on suspicion of domestic violence in the US.
Reports say neighbours called police when they heard screaming coming from his Santa Monica home in California.
Celebrity website TMZ says he is facing a felony charge for allegedly getting physical with his wife.
He was released after posting bail of US$50,000 (€45,123).
Townsend told TMZ the couple had already resolved their issues when police arrived.
He added they both "look forward to this being resolved speedily", and returning to their quiet lives.
Dublin-born Townsend is known for films such as 'Queen of the Damned', 'About Adam' and 'The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen'.
He has also appeared in several TV shows, including 'Will & Grace' and 'Law & Order: Special Victims Unit'.
Townsend was previously engaged to South African actress Charlize Theron.

The Santa Monica City Attorney has decided not to bring charges against Stuart Townsend in connection with this incident, his representative has said.
