A Laois community is in “total shock” after the death of a father and son in a moped crash in Turkey.
The father, aged in his 30s, and his 10-year-old son were on holidays in Alanya on the southern coast of Turkey when tragedy struck yesterday afternoon.
Turkish media is reporting that the pair were travelling on a moped when they were involved in a crash with a bus at around 3:30pm local time yesterday.
They were on holidays in Turkey with friends and family who were not injured in the accident.
Laois Offaly TD Brian Stanley said he knows the family personally.
“Actually, the deceased boy lives with his mother just in the same estate as myself,” he said.
“There was a huge sense of shock among the neighbours last night and the family. I want to extend my deepest sympathies to the families.”
The Department of Foreign Affairs has said it is aware of the case and is providing consular assistance.
