The “largest and fastest cruise ferry on the Irish Sea” is today making its first trips between Ireland and Wales.
Irish Ferries says the Oscar Wilde can carry up to 2,080 passengers per trip, with over 2,380 lane meters for cars, coaches, and freight vehicles.
The ship also boasts 134 ‘well-appointed’ cabins, restaurants, bars, cafés and lounges.
There are also pet facilities, a children's play area, and an extensive shopping space which Irish Ferries describes as “perfect for using the generous post-Brexit duty-free allowances”.
The ferry will service the route between Rosslare and Pembroke in Wales with twice-daily sailings.
The company said the new ferry can hit top speeds of 27.5 knots making it the fastest cruise ferry on the Irish Sea.
“We are delighted that Oscar Wilde is officially in service, offering customers an enhanced Irish Sea journey on board a ship featuring the very best in terms of comfort, speed, and amenities,” said Irish Ferries Managing Director, Andrew Sheen.
“We are confident that the Oscar Wilde will become a firm favourite with our passengers and freight customers, and we look forward to welcoming them on board.”
The new ship is replacing the BLUE STAR 1 which previously serviced the route.
