An Irish actor who played Seamus Finnigan in the Harry Potter movies has been ordered to pay his former agent €260,000 in fees.

Devon Murray and his parents Fidelma and Michael from Celbridge, Co Kildare have been successfully sued by Neil Brooks.

They had tried to argue that he breached the contract by being hard to contact and not protecting his client from adverse publicity.

Mr Justice Michael Moriarty found in favour of Mr Brooks, but reduced the initial sum sought by 9%.

Mr Brooks signed Mr Murray when he was 11 or 12. Soon afterwards, he secured a role in the first two Harry Potter movies.

Seamus Finnigan - an Irish half-blood wizard - was a character he ended up playing for the entire series.

Mr Brooks claims he secured a pay increase for his client ahead of the third movie, and said they agreed to an increase in his cut from 12.5% to 20%.

Yesterday, the court heard Devon had squandered all of his money on drink, cars and girls.

Speaking outside court today, the actor said that is not the case, saying he also put money into houses and property:
