Members of Irish Healthcare Workers for Palestine and Mothers Against Genocide protested at the US Embassy today, demanding sanctions against Israel.
The protestors dressed as healthcare workers with multiple injuries including broken legs, arms and bloodied head wounds.
They dressed as injured health providers to reflect the injuries doctors have received while continuing to work in Gaza hospitals.
HSE Emergency Medicine Team member Dr George Little and Safetynet Primary Care Medical Director Dr Angy Skuce were among the protestors.
Dr Skuce read a letter to the protesters from two American surgeons who volunteered in Gaza.
Over 76,000 people in Gaza, mainly civilians, have been injured by Israeli war efforts since Hamas launched an attack on Israel on October 7th.
The Gaza Health Ministry has also reported over 33,000 people have been killed.
Many hospitals in the region have also been severely damaged as the Israeli State has claimed they are being used as a base by members of Hamas.
Only 12 of Gaza's 36 hospitals remain partly functional, according to the most recent reports.
Hospital system in Palestine 'effectively collapsed'
Executive Director of the World Health Organisation’s Health Emergencies Programme Dr Mike Ryan previously told Newstalk hospitals that are still there are lacking basic facilities.
“The hospital system has effectively collapsed,” he said.
“Of those operational, they are really just partially functioning.
“We are supplementing emergency medical teams in field hospitals, but it is impossible to sustain the medical needs in Gaza with the current level of security and violence.”
Dr Ryan said the WHO has called for a ceasefire in Gaza “many times”.
