A Dublin boy has won a prestigious European Union sponsored climate change competition.

Caleb McDermott (10) from Killester has won the Light a Beacon competition.

The 5th class pupil at St Brigid's Boys' National School took a photograph of a penguin in a dinghy titled "What about the Penguins? Who will help them?".

The European Commissioner for Research, Máire Geoghegan-Quinn, launched the campaign in Dublin back in January.

The European Commission in Ireland, together with The Festival of Curiosity, kick started the campaign to light the first beacon for climate change in Europe during the BT Young Scientists and Technology Exhibition.

Winner Caleb says his idea and message were quite simple.
