Murphy Prototypes announced today that they have been invited again to take part in the 83rd edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The team will be Ireland’s only representatives in the race.
This year will be the fourth time that the team has taken part in this famous race. 2013 was the team’s most successful year when they finished the event 12th overall and sixth in class. 2014 however was a much more trying year for the team according to Team principle Greg Murphy. Unfortunately the team had to retire from the race just before the half way mark – despite setting the pace during much of the pre-event practice days. Mr Murphy said, “I love the 24 Hours of Le Mans, but 2014 was very disappointing and difficult. But we learned a great deal and we are now a better team for that.”
As well as taking part in the 24 Hours of Le Mans race Murphy Prototypes will return again to the European Le Mans Series, in which they have had many podium successes since 2012.
Greg Murphy said the following of his team, “We are trying to put together the best possible combination at the wheel for 2015. We can set fastest times and win races, this year we will be aiming to add consistency as the final ingredient for success. Now that our programme of desired events for 2015 has been confirmed, we will be making some exciting announcements in the coming weeks and look forward to getting our season underway at the Prologue in Paul Ricard.”
