A ballot of SIPTU members at Iarnród Éireann on a revised set of cost-cutting measures will begin today.
The fresh set of proposals, which include a reduction in the timeframe of paycuts from 28 months to 25 months, came after workers rejected a previous set of proposals put forward by the Labour Court.
The votes will be counted on July 7th.
The union threatened industrial action if the rail company went ahead and implemented the cost-cutting measures.
Paul Cullen of SIPTU says action will still go ahead if these latest proposals are implemented without the backing of workers, "The amended proposal would give us a reduction in the pay cut from 28 months to 25 months. They have strengthened up a lot of the issues in regard to trust and confidence. If this is not accepted, we have a mandate for industrial action, in the event of the company implementing this without agreement."
