The family were found guilty of forced labour last week after a three month trial during which the court heard details of extreme violence, starvation and squalor.

52 year old William Connors of Staverton in Gloucestershire was found to have rounded up vulnerable men who he housed in filthy caravans and forced to work in his paving business.

Also convicted was his wife Mary and their two sons John and James, along with their son-in-law Miles Connors.

The Connors were found out after a worker contacted the police in 2009. He was also was caught on CCTV footage assaulting one of his workers.

For decades the family had used vulnerable men for slave labour, controlling them with beatings and paying as little as 5 pounds a week while they grew wealthy.

The court was told the Connors family, who lived in high end caravans, also had a property portfolio and owned a string of luxury cars, and took luxury holidays including a Carribbean cruise and a trip to Dubai.

The men they enslaved were given punishment beatings, stripped and hosed down with freezing water and were starved to keep them under control.

There were chaotic scenes in Bristol Crown Court last Friday when all five members of the Connors family were found guilty of conspiracy to require a person to perform forced or compulsory labour.

They each face up to 14 years in prison.
