Irish Water has apologised for sending a bill addressed to man who they knew was dead.

Jessica Montague says she was shocked and upset to receive the bill addressed to her late husband Alan Montague, with R.I.P. in brackets beside it.

She does not know where they got her late husband's name, as he died six years ago, and she has not registered with the company.

Irish Water says it is sorry for the upset caused.

The company says its call centre staff can amend incorrect customer information for future billing.
