Irish Water says the highest bill they have seen was close to €20,000.

Water bills are capped at the moment - but where households are metered, customers' bills will show the monetary value of the water they have used.

Irish Water also says around 40% of customers are beating the meter.

Almost 750,000 water meters have been installed so far across the country, and the utility says it is on track to finish its metering programme by the middle of next year.
