The Department of Foreign Affairs is providing consular assistance to the family of an Irishman who was killed while climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania.
42-year-old Ian McKeever was struck by lightning as he led a group up Mount Kilimanjaro - a number of the other climbers were also Irish.
They are among a group being given medical attention - their condition is not believed to be serious.
The lecturer and broadcaster regularly mentored hikers - including many Irish schoolchildren.
Ian Mckeever's death comes 4 years after Limerick man Gerard McDonnell's death on K2 in Pakistan.
In a post to the Facebook page connected to his climbing company, Mr. McKeever's family and fiancée Anna - who was with him at the time - confirmed the news.
