An Irishman shot dead in Australia on Thursday has been named locally as Damien Conlon from County Sligo.
Mr Conlon was in his 30s and had been living in Australia for more than a decade.
He was found with a gunshot wound at a house in the town of Oberon in the Central Tablelands area of New South Wales on Thursday morning local time.
He was treated by paramedics but died at the scene.
57-year-old Luke Simon has since appeared in court charged with Mr Conlon’s murder.
He was refused bail and is due back before the courts in seven weeks’ time on April 5th.
Police believe the two men knew each other.
Mr Conlon reportedly worked in construction since moving to Australia. He was trained as a carpenter and set up his own business Down Under.
He became an Australian citizen in 2021.
The Department of Foreign Affairs said it is aware of the case and is providing consular assistance.
