Is your child the next Harry Potter?

HBO has issued an open casting call for children in Ireland and the UK to play the parts of Harry, Ron and Hermione in its upcoming Harry Potter TV series.

Children must be living in Ireland or Britain and be aged nine, 10 or 11-years-old in April next year to apply.

To apply, hopefuls must submit two videos.

The first should be of the child reading a poem, short story, play or something they have written themselves. The video should not contain anything from the Harry Potter books and should last for no more than 30 seconds.

In the second video, the child should tell the casting directors about themselves and include details such as their height, date of birth and where they live. They should also talk about a friend, family member or pet that they really love. 

Both videos should be filmed on a standard smartphone in landscape mode, in a quiet room with a plain background. 

The child should wear something that they would normally wear and feel comfortable in. 

Videos must be submitted by a parent or guardian through the official casting website.

Warners Bros has promised that the new series will be a “faithful adaptation” and author JK Rowling will serve as an executive producer. 

“Each season will bring Harry Potter and these incredible adventures to new audiences around the world, while the original, classic and cherished films will remain at the core of the franchise and available to watch globally,” a spokesperson said. 

It is understood that filming is likely to begin in April next year.
