The Israeli Ambassador has accused Irish people of having a one-sided view of the Middle East conflict – portraying Israel 'as the only villain'.

Ambassador Dana Erlich has said people should ask more questions about the operations of Hamas in Gaza.

She told The Pat Kenny Show people need to be more balanced in their criticism.

"If I look at the way this story, this war is conveyed here in Ireland I hear a very one-sided view portraying Israel as the only villain and not showing any responsibility of Hamas," she said.

"Not just for the attacks of October 7th, [but] how they're embedded in their population, how they use them as human shields.

"We need to protect ourselves from them, we need the international community to call them out, to condemn them.

"I ask the Irish people listening right now when you criticise Israel, just raise more questions about the actions of Hamas.

"Think what can be done inside Gaza by the UN agencies in order to actually help the Palestinian people.

"When you call out in the streets of Dublin, why are you not calling out for the release of the Israeli kidnapped civilians?

"We ask you to be more critical."

Ambassador Erlich defended Israeli Army operations at Naser Hospital which saw it stormed last week.

"The operation at Naser Hospital is an example of many things going on in Gaza right now," she said.

"It's an example of the cynical abuse of civilian infrastructure by Hamas - by the Geneva Convention, by international law and by the rules of war it is not allowed to use hospitals for military purposes.

"Yet we saw hundreds of terrorists hiding, taking shelter in the hospital, and underneath the hospital," she claimed.

Ambassador Erlich said Israeli Defence Forces helped keep the hospital running.

"The hospital was still operational during that operation, and the IDF helped restore the generator and we brought in another generator to make sure that there is electricity - but you don't hear all of that," she said.

"When we hear the coverage of it you hear a very one-sided point of view.

"What I asked people when they criticise Israel is to implement that same criticism to the other side".

'Hamas is responsible'

Ambassador Erlich denied Israel's response was disproportionate, insisting her country's operations are "in compliance with international law and humanitarian law."

Ambassador Erlich said Hamas has to be eliminated like Al-Qaeda.

"It's not something that just Israel is saying, our neighbour countries feel the same way, the world sees it the same way," she said.

"This threat of terror needs to be eliminated in the same way that we joined forces to fight ISIS, to fight Al-Qaeda."

Put to her that Palestinian civilians see Israel as the terrorists, she said: "They understand that Hamas is responsible for all that, they see the infrastructure and money invested in all those tunnels.

They see the amount of money and stockpiles that they are hiding in those tunnels and they understand that they are being used as human shields in this very cynical, coward playbook by Hamas.

"I don't understand why people who are so supportive of the Palestinian population here in Ireland are not calling it out publicly?

"Why are there not any voices calling out an condemning Hamas?"

A widely-supported UN Security Council resolution calling for a ceasefire in Gaza was vetoed again by the United States yesterday.

Thirteen out of the 15 members supported it with the UK abstaining.

Palestine's UN Ambassador Riyad Mansour criticised a failure to pass the resolution with almost 30,000 Palestinians killed and more than 69,000 injured.

Mr Mansour claimed in past 20 days alone, Israel has killed "nearly 4,000 more Palestinian children, women".

He branded this a "deplorable consequence of inaction."
