The Israeli Embassy has said it is “appalled” after its building in Dublin was vandalised last night.
Following Israel’s decision to declare war on Hamas, protesters gathered outside the Embassy on Monday evening and red paint was thrown at the building.
In a post on social media, a group called Anti-Imperialist Action Ireland claimed responsibility and said their actions were motivated by a “defence of Palestine”.
Gardaí confirmed two arrests were made for alleged public order.
In a statement to Newstalk, a spokesperson for the Embassy said the vandalism was “not helping the Palestinian cause” and risked “legitimising Hamas”.
“We are appalled that at a time when hundreds of innocent Israelis have been butchered and kidnapped some people choose to stay silent and instead of condemning the horrors, try and attack the Embassy,” he said.
Ireland has condemned the actions of Hamas and Tánaiste Micheál Martin has expressed the Government’s support for a “just and sustainable peace” in the region.
