Israel"s Prime Minister Benjamin Netenyahu has raised the stakes in the Gaza conflict saying his country is ready to "significantly expand" its military operation there.

Israel and Hamas have continued to exchange fire overnight and this morning.

The number of dead inside Gaza has passed fifty - including fourteen children.

Meanwhile, Egypt is continuing efforts to broker a ceasefire. 

But the Israeli President Shimon Peres claims that Hamas has rejected Egypt"s proposals.
