The Israeli military has reportedly shot down 99% of the 300 missiles and drones launched by Iran overnight.

Israel Defence Forces (IDF) spokesperson Daniel Hagari said Israeli aircrafts are still patrolling the skies in anticipation of another attack.

At least 12 people were injured, including a seven-year-old girl who remains in intensive care.

Mr Hagari said 30 cruise missiles were launched, none of which went into Israel, as well as 120 ballistic missiles.

According to Mr Hagari, drone strikes on Israel last night also came from Yemen and Iraq.

He said in recent hours "dozens of rockets" were launched from Lebanon into northern Israel, and in response the IDF struck a number of military structures in Lebanon.

"Iran pushed the Middle East towards escalation. We will do whatever is necessary," he said.

Iran launched the series of drones toward Israel on Saturday evening after it accused Israel of launching an air strike on the Iranian embassy in Syria on April 1st, killing two generals.

Hamas has described the air strike from Iran as a “natural right and deserved response”.

“We in Hamas regard the military operation conducted by the Islamic Republic of Iran a natural right and a deserved response on the crime of targeting the Iranian consulate in Damascus and the assassination of several leaders,” it said in a statement.

Taoiseach Simon Harris has condemned the air strike and urged "all sides to show restraint now and to avoid any escalation in military action and the devastation that would cause".

Support for Israel

The US, UK and France reportedly helped patrol Israeli airspace in anticipation of the air strikes.

US President Joe Biden said he spoke to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to “reaffirm America’s ironclad commitment to security in Israel”.

“Israel demonstrated a remarkable capacity to defend against and defeat even unprecedented attacks,” he said.

G7 leaders are set to meet later today in order to coordinate a "united diplomatic" response.

The G7 is made up of the United States, UK, Canada, France, Germany, Italy and Japan, with representatives from the European Union also attending.
