The official Twitter account of the Israeli embassy in Ireland has removed a tweet which appears to admonish the French over the recent terror attacks in Paris.

A photo featuring the Mona Lisa dressed in a hijab while holding what appears to be a rocket with the caption “Israel now, Paris next” was posted on Monday with the words: “Don’t say we didn’t warn you...” The tweet has since been removed, according to Rabble magazine.

An embassy representative told US website The Blaze in an email that they tweeted the image in the wake of last week’s terror attacks in France “to symbolize the meaning of the Islamist terrorist attack on European and democratic values. However, because of abusive, vile and anti-semitic comments in response to it, we have decided to take the image down.”

The same image was posted back in July, alongside a picture of the Molly Malone in Muslim dress with the caption: “Israel now, Dublin next”. Both were later removed following criticism on social media.

The Israeli embassy in Ireland is yet to respond to Newstalk.com’s inquiries regarding the tweet.
