Police in Israel have evicted dozens of activists from an area of the West Bank where a new settlement is planned. 

The protesters had put up around 20 tents in the area known as E1, just outside Jerusalem. 

Palestinians fear the settlement threatens the viability of any future state.

Israel's plans to develop the E1 site have been condemned by the United States as a violation of peace accords.
