Kevin, who was about a mile from the blast site when the tragedy occurred, talked about the immediate aftermath of the explosions, and also the atmosphere in the city twelve hours later. He told presenter Shane Coleman that "the only thing I could compare it to is 9/11."

Kevin spoke about a phone call he received from a firefighter who attended the scene where a young girl had been seriously injured:

The bombings occurred on Patriot's Day, a national holiday in the city. The marathon is attended by runners and observers from all over the world, and Kevin says for that reason "the attack was on everyone", not just America and Boston.

Kevin told how the 8 year-old victim was the son of a personal friend. The boy's mother and sister were seriously injured in the explosions.

With the interview taking place late at night in Boston, Kevin said he was preparing to try and sleep. However, he talked about how he was fearing the following morning and likely discovering several more of his friends & acquaintances were injured or affected by the bombings. He wondered "what was that for? What did it accomplish?"

The tragedy was a shocking end to one of the world's oldest and most popular marathons. Kevin talked about how the runners responded to the news of the explosion, recounting that "I saw a doctor who looked like he had just performed some sort of surgery, and he was just in his running togs."
