An Italian man accused of murdering his landlord in Dublin has been sent forward for trial. Tom O'Gorman, a researcher and former journalist, was stabbed to death at his home at Beech Park Avenue in Castleknock on January 12th.
His lodger Saverio Bellante (34) was brought to court the following day charged with his murder.
He was admitted to the Central Mental Hospital for treatment shortly afterwards, and was excused from several scheduled court appearances.
This morning, Mr Bellante was brought before Judge Alan Mitchell at Cloverhill District Court where he was handed a book of evidence by Detective Garda Patrick Traynor.
His solicitor Tony Collier told the court his client - who is from Palermo - has good English and does not need the book to be translated into Italian.
Due to the seriousness of the charge, Judge Mitchell decided to certify an interpreter for meetings with his legal team.
He also granted him free legal aid for one senior counsel and a junior counsel, and he was remanded in custody and sent forward for trial to the next sittings of the Central Criminal Court.
