Italy's new government says a shooting suspect had recently lost his job.

The 49 year old man's accused of opening fire outside the office of the prime minister in Rome.

The incident left two policemen wounded with one in a serious condition after being shot in the neck.

A swearing-in ceremony for the new coalition government was taking place about 1 kilometre from the scene of the shooting.
