It has been a morning of nervousness and excitement as over 61,000 students received their Leaving Cert results this morning.
This year’s results have hit another record high with the dual system of accredited grades and traditional exams leading to 2.6% in grades.
That follows on from last year’s 4.4% increase.

Caoimhe Carberry from Dublin picked up her results online this morning and told Newstalk she is thrilled.
“I’m delighted with them and hopefully, on Tuesday, I’ll get into my college course,” she said.
“Hopefully I get into TU Dublin and do culinary arts. I am hoping to go on to be a chef or something, but I would love to open my own restaurant – in 30 years’ time or whatever; definitely not in ten years’ time, you know.”
There were increases in the number of students achieving top grades in almost every subject this year.
Of the traditional subjects, Higher Level Maths saw the biggest increase with the percentage of students achieving a H1 rising from 8.6% to 15.1%.
The percentage achieving a H1 in Higher Level Irish rose from 9.1% to 11.9% and in Higher Level English it rose from 4.4% to 7.6%.
On Newstalk Breakfast this morning, Emma O’Keefe from Kinsale said she was waiting for her results with a mixture of nervousness and excitement.
“There is definitely nervousness around it but there is an element of excitement as well because it is a new step in our education,” she said.
“We have been waiting so long for our results now you have to be excited at the same time.”
Meanwhile, Caillum Hedderman from Limerick said the pandemic took its toll on the Class of 2021.
“I think it was a lot for everyone,” he said. “I think everyone is kind of realising now and I think we are at the stage that we are just happy for it to be finally - nearly - at the finish line.
“The big day will definitely be on Tuesday when it comes to points. I know a lot of people will be nervous for then.
“Today, it is that feeling of worry; you get these gushes of nervousness, but you get these gushes of excitement as well, so it is just finally getting there and see what’s on the physical piece of paper.”
