It's been a busy year for the Defence Forces.

The Irish Army, Aer Corps and Naval Services have been involved in a range of activities during 2014, according to information released today.

The Naval Service completed over 900 boardings in 2014, for alleged infringements of fishing regulations.

31 fishing boats had infringements recorded and ten vessels were detained.

The seizure of €80 million worth of cocaine, aboard the Makayabella yacht, which was detained in September, is being hailed a significant success.

Meanwhile, 430 members of the Irish Defence Forces are currently involved in Peace Support operations in 16 countries.

The largest troop contingent is attached to UNIFIL in Lebanon, where there are 199 Irish personnel.

Also during the year, the army completed almost 1,300 cash in transit escorts, as well as 139 special category prisoner security escorts until the start of this month.

Meanwhile, the Air Corps completed 107 Air ambulance missions, including 64 national and 47 international transfers of patients and it conducted 12 search and rescue missions in 2014.
