Jack Chambers has been named as the new deputy leader of Fianna Fáil.
Tánaiste Micheál Martin announced the appointment on Wednesday evening.
The Dublin West TD takes up the role which had been vacant since 2020 when Dara Calleary stepped down in the aftermath of the 'Golf Gate' scandal.
The now-infamous meeting of the Oireachtas Golf Society in a Galway hotel during the COVID-19 pandemic saw major fallout - including the resignations of Mr Calleary and Phil Hogan as Ireland's EU Commissioner.
The function saw some 80 people attend when public health guidelines stated that no more than 50 people should gather indoors.
Making the announcement, The Tánaiste praised Deputy Chambers 'exceptionally hard' work.
"He has served as a very effective councillor, TD and now as member of the Government at Cabinet," he said.
"Since we entered Government, he has been working exceptionally hard - in his roles as Government Chief Whip, Minister of State for Sport and The Gaeltacht, and in his current role as Minister of State at the Department of Transport and the Department of the Environment, Climate and Communications."
Deputy Chambers has also previously served as Fianna Fáil's Director of Local Elections.
