Irish actor and Sing Street star Jack Reynor is reportedly down to the final three in the search for the actor who will be cast as the young Han Solo in the forthcoming Star Wars spin-off. Directed by The LEGO Movie’s Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, the film is set for release in 2018.
The Hollywood Reporter has said that last weekend, Reynor completed a screen test for the role. The other two actors in contention are Alden Ehrenreich, most recently seen stealing the show in the Coen Brothers’ farce Hail, Caesar! and Taron Egerton, star of Kingsman and Eddie the Eagle.
While no further names have emerged in the casting of the role immortalised by Harrison Ford, Disney has declined to comment.
Reynor was first linked to the role as early as last December, when his name was included in a list of 10 actors including Dave Franco, Miles Teller, Ansel Elgort, and Emory Cohen, who played the New York-based romantic lead opposite Saoirse Ronan in Brooklyn. Casting directors on the project are believed to have watched tapes of as many as 2,500 actors in what is one of the widest casting calls ever.
Lord and Miller, known for their deft comedic touch at turning unlikely source material in critical and commercial success, will direct the movie based off a script by father-and-son writing duo Lawrence and Jon Kasdan.
