American actress Jane Fonda has revealed that she's started chemotherapy after being diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma.

The 84-year-old wrote on her Instagram: "This is a very treatable cancer. 80% of people survive, so I feel very lucky."

"Almost every family in America has had to deal with cancer at one time or another, and far too many don't have access to the quality healthcare I am receiving and this is not right."

She emphasised the importance of finding not only cures, but "causes" of cancer - "so we can eliminate them".

Having started chemotherapy six months ago, Fonda said she's not letting it interfere with her climate activism.

As she adapts to her treatment, she said she intends to find "new ways to use our collective strength to make change".

Non-Hodgkin lymphoma is a type of cancer that develops in the lymphatic system, a network of vessels and glands spread throughout your body. The lymphatic system is part of your immune system

It causes white blood cells called lymphocytes to grow abnormally and can form tumors around the body.
