Newstalk now reaches 287,000 listeners daily. That is according to JNLR results released today.
The figures show that 'Moncrieff' with Sean Moncrieff has broken 100,000 bench mark with 104,000 listeners daily. That is an increase of 9,000 on the last book. While 'The Right Hook' has 132,000 people listening daily which is an increase of 1,000.
- 'Off the Ball' has 43,000 listeners, an increase of 4,000
- 'Tom Dunne' has 55,000 listeners, an increase of 2,000
- 'Newstalk Breakfast' remains unchanged at 121,000
- Weekend Sports Saturday & Sunday have a combined audience of 141,000, - a 15,000 increase
- 'Hook’s Saturday Sit-in' has 57,000 listeners - an increase of 12,000
- An increase in audience of 6,000, book-on-book, in the rest of Leinster
Station Editor Garrett Harte said "We are delighted that Sean Moncrieff has broken the benchmark of 100,000 listeners daily. This is a very important landmark for Newstalk, with three prime-time shows now reaching over 100,000 people daily".
The latest figures confirm the popularity of independent radio in Ireland with more than 2.5 million listeners. 7 out of every 10 minutes listened to radio in Ireland is to an independent radio station.
John Purcell, Chairman of the Independent Broadcasters of Ireland welcomed the latest figures which show the combined strength of independent radio stations has a 67.6% share of the market in comparison to RTÉ which has 32.4%.
Mr. Purcell said independent radio is closer to listeners and delivers content that they can relate to.
