Joanne O’Riordan is a 17-year-old from County Cork who has received widespread admiration for living her life with no limbs, and no limits.
She was born with total amelia syndrome, a condition affecting just seven people in the world that has left her without arms and legs.
On the week of her 16th birthday in 2012, Joanne addressed a United Nations conference on technology in New York, where she challenged leading women in their field to build her a robot.
Trinity College responded to her call, and the first stage of it was launched at the Cork Opera House last October.
She’s the youngest of five children, and she lives in Millstreet with her parents, Ann and Joe, her brothers, Denis, Danny and Steven, and her sister, Gillian.
She’s on her mid-term break at the moment, and will sit her Leaving Cert this June.
And these are Joanne O’Riordan’s Musical Heirlooms…
Joanne's song choices were:
- One Direction - What Makes You Beautiful
- Imagine Dragons - On Top of the World
