US Secretary of State John Kerry has met top officials in France to express American solidarity with the French people after the terror attacks last week.
He said "our hearts are with you", as he greeted French President Francois Hollande this morning.
"We watched the people of France come together with a great sense of purpose and unity. It was a great lesson to the world, I think. And once again, France, through its commitment to freedom and to the passion of ideas, has made an important statement to the world," he said.
"So really, our hearts are with you and it's a pleasure to be able to be here to share these thoughts with you on a personal basis", he added.
He has also laid a wreath at the Jewish supermarket in Paris - the scene of one of the sieges.
Meanwhile the funeral of another of the victims of the terror attacks - Charlie Hebdo's editor-in-chief - has been held.
Mr Kerry explained why he had made the journey over the Atlantic.
It comes after an earlier situation north west of Paris, in which a gunman took hostages in a post office.
However this incident ended with the gunman being arrested and the hostages freed.
