The Ferrari Beatles frontman John Lennon chose as his first car goes on sale today at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in Sussex, England.
Lennon bought the car, a 330FT 2+2 Coupé for €7,500 (just over €127,000 today) hours after he passed his driving test in February 1965. When the news broke car dealers brought a selection of luxury vehicles to his house in Surrey for him to choose from. The legendary singer-songwriter, by then father to 22-month-old Julian by his first wife Cynthia, chose the Ferrari over Maseratis, Aston Martins and the Jaguar E-type.
The musician used the car for almost three years until October 1967, driving more than 20,000 miles.
Previously, a Rolls-Royce Phantom V Limousine Lennon customised in a pyschedelic style drew a staggering $2.3 million in 1985.
