Varadkar tells Johnson: No satisfactory option found to replace the backstop
The Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has told the new British Prime Minister Boris Johnson there is still no viable alternative to the backstop.
The two leaders have spoken for the first time since Mr Johnson was elected prime minister last week.
A phone call between the two leaders took place on Tuesday morning.
Dun Laoghaire co-living development given green light
A proposed co-living development in Dun Laoghaire in Dublin has been given the green light.
The project by Bartra Capital Property Group has received planning permission for the planned development at Eblana Avenue.
However, the permission has only been granted on the condition that all bedrooms will be provided with "functional kitchens to include cooking hobs."
High Court approves €15 million settlement for boy who suffered brain damage at birth
The High Court has approved a settlement of €15 million for a 13-year-old boy who suffered brain damage at birth.
Arron O'Keefe, from Mallow in Co. Cork, who has Cerebral Palsy, was awarded the settlement after his family sued the HSE.
It is in addition to two previous awards totaling €2.6 million over the past four years.
Cork student wins Google Science Fair in California
An Irish student has won the 2019 Google Science Fair in the US.
The annual online science competition in California is open to students between the ages of 13 and 18 from around the world.
18-year-old Fionn Ferreira, from Ballydehob in Co Cork, looked at the removal of microplastics from water.
He was announced as overall global winner on Monday at Google international headquarters in California.
Zappone examining if Tusla can be given extra powers to 'close down or suspend' creches
The Children's Minister is examining what additional powers can be given to the child and family agency to close down creches when major concerns arise.
Katherine Zappone has written to Tusla asking them to outline necessary changes to strengthen their enforcement powers.
She has also asked officials to examine how parents can be informed at the earliest possible opportunity of concerns being investigated.
