The parents of Olivia Burke and Ashley Donohoe issued a statement after the funeral service thanking the Irish people for their support during the past week and paid tribute to their daughters.

A special mass, to remember the victims of the Berkeley tragedy, has also taken place at the Pro-Cathedral in Dublin on Saturday evening.

Chief celebrant Archbishop Diarmuid Martin spoke about the united grief that the country is feeling, for the victims and the families affected.

Six students - five Irish and one Irish-American, died after an apartment balcony collapsed during a party earlier this week, in the university city of Berkeley in California.

The bodies of four of the victims are due to arrive back in Dublin on Sunday morning.

At the special memorial service in Dublin on Saturday, Archbishop Martin says people are struggling to express their grief and shock at the events of this week:

Olivia's remains will be repatriated to Ireland within the next few days.

The bodies of the four other victims - Eoghan Culligan, Niccolai Schuster, Lorcán Miller and Eimear Walsh - are reposing at St Columba' Church in Oakland, California, where a guard of honour by J1 students will take place today.

They will be brought home on an Aer Lingus flight from San Francisco to Dublin which will land tomorrow morning.

The Archbishop of Dublin, Diarmuid Martin, will celebrate a special mass at Dublin's Pro-Cathedral this evening, in memory of the six young students who lost their lives.

A book of condolence is open there today and these people explain why they have signed it:

A minute's silence will be observed at all GAA inter-county matches this weekend as a mark of respect to those who died in the tragedy.

In Dublin yesterday, hundreds gathered at UCD for an inter-faith service to remember the victims, three of whom had been students there.

President Michael D Higgins and his wife Sabina were among those attending the special ceremony.

UCD has also opened an online book of condolence on its website.

Seven other students were injured when the balcony collapsed during a 21st birthday party in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
