Data from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has shown that July of 2015 was the hottest month since records began in 1880.

The US-based body keeps tabs and statistics on the climate and oceans, and their records showed that several regions had record-breaking heatwaves last month.

Australia had their hottest month in the 249 years that they have been keeping records, Spain similarly recorded their hottest July ever, and that the average temperature in Africa was second only to that in July of 2002.

The NOAA reported that the "combined average temperature over global land and ocean surfaces for July 2015 was 1.46°F degrees above the 20th-century average of 60.4 degrees", which matches with data from NASA and Japan's Meteorological Administration, both of which had similar findings.

Furthermore, the data showed that July was the 365th consecutive month in which the global temperature was above average.
