A jury has heard a 'distressing' 999 phone call for help by the late Paul Byrne as he was being stabbed to death by his wife.

Tanya Doyle admits killing the 48-year-old engineer at their home in Pairc Gleann Trasna, Aylesbury in Tallaght, Dublin on September 4th 2009 but denies murder.

The phone call lasts 8 minutes and starts with Mr. Byrne telling the emergency services 'my wife is stabbing me, she's trying to kill me'.

He says 'she's knocking the door down, don't kill me...I didn't do anything to you'. While a female voice replies 'You did, it's all over'.

Loud screams of pain

Later in the phone call are loud screams of pain and Paul Byrne says 'my heart' and 'please I'm dying'. Gardai say they found him on a bed at his home with stab wounds to his neck, heart and stomach.

The court has heard at the scene Tanya Doyle told detectives her husband drank and abused her and took all her money from when she ran an escort agency. She said she was provoked and had meant to kill him.

Asked if she was sorry she said 'No I'm not, I'm really not because of what he did'.
