The rapper embarked on a 20-minute rant in which he described himself as 'shy'.
West was brought in to cover Canadian rapper Drake who was taken ill and couldn't perform.
The singer received loud boos as he stopped performing to talk about himself, often in the third person.
During his rant, West claimed: “So if I walk around and say look sir, I’m not feeling so good today, I need some space, can you please not fuck with me today? I need cut-off space, not violation."
He also compared photographers’ intrusion into his life to “rape”.
But festival-goers became increasingly disgruntled with reports of boos and chants of “We want Drake".
Kanye said about the reports: "The media wrote that people booed and you know what, I'm not going to lie, I'm not invincible.
"It hurt me a little bit because I knew how much of a good time that everyone had."
"I'm sorry that I'm not a complete belligerent arsehole that I normally am, but I will be back."
Reports say the star was booed for two consecutive nights at the Wireless Festival but apparently received a warmer reception on the third night.
