A photo of Kate Middleton published in the US this week “won’t be seen in any UK newspaper,” according to an international news presenter.
TRTs Enda Brady told Lunchtime Live today that the Princess of Wales had asked for privacy while recovering from surgery and criticised the “lack of respect” shown by one photographer who chose to ignore this.
The photo was published by TMZ and shows Kate on a school run alongside her mother.
Mr Brady said it won’t be touched by the UK press.
“It has been published in the United States but nobody in the UK will touch that photography and you won’t see it in any newspaper, magazine or online publication in Britain,” he said.
“People were told at the outset that the Princess of Wales was not well and that she’d had abdominal surgery and would be recovering at home and not be fulfilling any royal duties until easter.
“I think in royal circles there will be anger behind closed doors and the public will be extremely supportive of the princess while she continues her recovery.”
Payday
Mr Brady said the snap would have earned one photographer a big payday.
“As much as elements of the UK media have been rightly or wrongly blamed in recent years for their treatment of the Royal Family – nobody has done anything wrong here,” he said.
“Papers and photographers have respected that decision and, interestingly, this has popped up in the US.
"One photographer, whoever it may be, would have made a lot of money by taking that picture.”
Media agreement
Talk TV Royal Editor Sarah Hewson said UK media are in full agreement not to use the photo.
“Kensington Palace had been clear in asking for her privacy to be respected during recovery and that she’d be back to duties after Easter,” she said.
“A decision has been made in this country that she is to be left alone.
“There are a lot of questions being asked about the photograph but one thing it does do is put a stop to some of the wilder conspiracies that have been circulating online.
“Some have been light-hearted but others have been driven out of concern for the Princess."
King Charles III is also taking time away from royal duties after it was announced earlier this year he had been diagnosed with cancer.
