Katie Taylor will take on Chantelle Cameron once again tonight in her first boxing match as the “underdog”.
The rematch will consist of two 10-minute rounds in the 3Arena tonight, as Ireland will see whether Ms Taylor can defeat Ms Cameron following her previous loss.
Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn told The Anton Savage Show that, despite the home advantage, this match will be unlike any other Ms Taylor has done.
“This is about who’s the best in the world and a chance for Katie Taylor to put it right,” he said.
“She’s the underdog for the first time in her career – people in boxing see Chantelle Cameron as the big favourite... it’s the biggest night of her career so far.”
Katie Taylor's 'feathers ruffled'
Mr Hearn explained Ms Cameron completely disrupted Ms Taylor’s usual flow in their previous match and “ruffled Katie’s feathers”.
“Even though Katie came back into the fight, it was almost too late,” he said.
“So, the first four or five rounds will be vital for Katie Taylor – she's got to box sharp and bank those rounds.
“The war’s coming – Chantelle Cameron will be all over her like a rash from the first round of this fight, but Katie had got to use their boxing skills and try and bank those rounds.”
Legacy of Katie Taylor
Mr Hearn pointed out the surprise amongst Irish people when Ms Taylor lost her previous match against Ms Cameron.
“I think a lot of people in the arena just saw it as a homecoming for Katie, they didn't know a lot about Chantelle Cameron,” he said.
“They just expected Katie to win, but this time round obviously, she's got that underdog status in the fight.
“Her back is against the wall, but she's fired up and you can see that in her eyes. You could see that in preparation, and she will do everything she can to be victorious.”
For Ms Taylor, Mr Hearn explained, this match is about maintaining her legacy and “incredible resume”.
