According to electricity company EirGrid demand across the country fell by 6% yesterday evening.
This happened as people stopped work to watch the Bray boxer clinch the gold medal.

Demand for power fell by 205 megawatts during the bout.
This is the equivalent of the electricity usage needed for 130,000 homes.
Power rose again as kettles were boiled and fridges opened but it fell again by 90 megawatts during the medal presentation.
