The priest overseeing the funeral of Keane Mulready-Woods has said he hopes his death will serve as a warning to other teenagers.

The 17-year-old was murdered last month with his partial remains found in separate locations in Dublin.

In his homily, Father Phil Gaffney said Keane was brutally murdered after he fell in with the wrong people.

He said he hopes his death will serve as a warning to young teenagers who are being groomed into a life of crime by “ruthless criminals.”

He noted that the promise of money and gifts will inevitably end in tragedy and called for an end to Drogheda feud before more lives are lost.

He also urged people who take drugs on nights out to consider the consequences.

“I hope these violent incidents are a wake-up call for all of us in society,” he said.

“To realise that all our actions have consequences. Those who take drugs on a social basis have to realise they are fuelling this situation because we have normalised the drug situation in Ireland.

“Doing a line of coke is as normal as having a drink these days.”

Father Gaffney said the “gruesome” manner of Keane’s murder has caused an “unparalleled level of revulsion” across the country.

The funeral was held at the Holy Family Church in Ballsgrove this morning with a burial ceremony at Calvary Cemetery.

Keane is survived by his parents, three brothers and one sister.
