Mentalist magician Keith Barry has tried many risky stunts in his career – including catching a bullet fired at him.

The ‘bullet catch’ trick in which a magician appears to catch a bullet fired directly at them — often in the mouth.

Barry, who will be touring around Ireland from early September, said he spoke to the author of the book 12 Have Died about the deadly trick.

“I asked his advice on it – and he just said don’t do it,” he told The Anton Savage Show.

“It is known as kind of the ‘black trick’ of magic where things can go wrong.

“I even had a great conversation with a friend of mine yesterday, Jonathan Goodwin, and he was on America's Got Talent kind of two years ago maybe.

"He's known as the daredevil. He's an escapologist. Fantastic person, with a fantastic brain.

“But it went wrong on him and he's in a wheelchair now.

“I've been lucky so far - touch wood.”

Barry also recalled performing at Dwight Feeney’s inauguration into the Hall of Fame in Ohio – where he tried to hyponotise Michael Jordan.

“Everybody there was a celebrity so there’s a full SWAT team outside with machine guns,” he said.

“I’m just a laggard from Waterford and I’m standing there pinching myself.

“I was asked to do some kind of ‘walk-around mentalism’ and there was this kerfuffle going on.

“I noticed it was Michael Jordan and I thought, ‘Well I have to get at him now, I have to try and hack his brain’.

“I noticed there were two bodyguards next to him, so I just said to his bodyguard, ‘I'm the mentalist, I'm going around, I was just on stage, I just wanted to show Michael something’.”

The bodyguard, however, was not willing to let Barry show off his talents.

“He started to reach into his pants,” he said. “My guess might be that he was holding something down his pants and kind of just telling me, ‘Listen, dude, I'm in charge of the show here’.

“Like there were so many guns going on around this place if one person just made a wrong move, who knows what would happen?”

Barry begins his tour on September 7th in the Gleneagle Inec Arena in Killarney.
