The jury in Kieran Greene’s murder trial has heard he told gardaí he didn't actually kill Patricia O'Connor and was taking the blame for someone else.

Mr Greene of Mountainview Park, Rathfarnham, Dublin denies murdering and dismembering his partner’s mother, Patricia O’Connor.

Some six months after Kieran Greene handed himself in and admitted killing Patricia O’Connor, the trial heard he changed his original version of events and blamed Patricia’s husband Gus for killing her with some sort of bar or crowbar in the bathroom of the home they shared in Rathfarnham.

He claimed Gus told him he’d have to take the blame because he was defending him after she attacked him with a hurley.

He told them his partner Louise knew what happened, and said it was her ex Keith Johnston who dismembered the body after they dug her up from a shallow grave in Co Wexford.

He also claimed Louise and Keith’s daughter Stephanie dressed up as her grandmother to make it look like she was still alive.

Gus is not on trial, but the others are. They’ve all pleaded not guilty to impeding Mr Greene’s apprehension or prosecution.

The jury heard he felt he shouldn’t be taking all the blame, and told the detectives it wasn't fair that he was facing a murder trial while they were all still out there.
