Two men have been arrested in connection with the suspected murder of Cork man Kieran Quilligan.
The men, aged in their 20s and 30s, have been arrested on suspicion of murder.
They are currently in custody at a Garda station in Cork city.
Gardaí upgraded their investigation to a murder inquiry on February 1st, three days after Mr Quilligan’s remains were discovered in Rostellan in east Cork.
Mr Quilligan (47) was last seen on September 1st in Cork city centre.
Gardaí searched farmland and coastline at Little Island for 11 days later that month, however no trace of the 47-year-old was found.
Irish Independent Southern Correspondent Ralph Riegel previously told Newstalk investigations so far suggest Mr Quilligan died violently.
“What we understand is that Mr Quilligan was subjected to quite a savage assault in the hours before his death,” he said.
He noted the main suspects involved in the investigation so far are “all are associated with a drugs gang” in Cork, though it is not yet clear if these suspects were those arrested today.
