A man in his 40s is being questioned on suspicion of murder following the death of another man in Co Kildare.
Gardaí say the fatal assault happened between 3pm and 4pm yesterday at an apartment on School Street in Kilcock.
A man in his 50s was pronounced dead at the scene.
A post-mortem examination is to be carried out this morning at Naas General Hospital by State Pathologist Sally Ann Collis.
The scene on School Street remains preserved for examination by the Garda Technical Bureau.
A Garda Family Liaison Officer has been appointed to liaise with the family of the dead man.
A man in his 40s was arrested and is being held under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act at a Garda station in Kildare.
Gardaí are appealing to any persons who were in the vicinity of School Street between 3pm and 4pm and saw any activity which drew their attention to come forward.
Any road users who may have camera footage, including dash-cam, and were travelling in the vicinity of School Street between 3pm and 4pm are asked to make this footage available to Gardaí.
