A Kildare man has picked up a cheque for €298,934. The man, who wishes to remain private, matched five numbers and a Lucky Star in the Euromillions draw last Friday.

He was one number away from winning the jackpot that night, which was almost €25 million.

Speaking today, he said "It's a nice amount to win, I am very happy. I would consider myself to be lucky, as about five or six years ago I won €7,300 on Lotto".

"No plans as of yet, but I'll enjoy it and look after the family" he added.

He bought his €6 Quick Pick ticket on the day of draw in Fullams, Main Street, Rathangan in Kildare.

Tonight the Euromillions jackpot is an estimated €30 million.
